`fec`

Enables Forward Error Correction (FEC) on an Ethernet port to improve link reliability.

Syntax

fec {off | on}

no fec {off | on}

Command Default

FEC is enabled on 100G ports by default.

Usage Guidelines

The fec command is supported on interfaces using 25G and 100G optics only. The fec command is not supported on 1G, 10G, or 40G interfaces. Attempting to enable FEC on an unsupported interface results in an error message.

Enabling FEC improves the bit error rate (BER) performance and is typically used with long-reach optics.

The fec command complies with Clause 91 Forward Error Correction (CL91) of the IEEE 802.3 specification (CL91).

FEC cannot be configured on LAG member interfaces. Interfaces with FEC enabled cannot be added to a LAG.

Examples

The following example enables FEC on Ethernet interface 1/1/1.

The following example disables FEC on Ethernet interface 1/1/1.

device# configure terminal
device(config)# interface ethernet 1/1/1
device(config-if-e25000-1/1/1)# no fec
