msdp-peer

Configures a multicast source discovery protocol (MSDP) peer.
Syntax
msdp-peer ip-address [ ao keychain-name ]
no msdp-peer ip-address [ ao keychain-name ]
msdp-peer ip-address [ connect-source loopback num [ ao keychain-name ] | shutdown ]
no msdp-peer ip-address [ connect-source loopback num [ ao keychain-name ] | shutdown ]
Parameters
ip-address
Specifies the IPv4 address of the MSDP peer.
connect-source loopback num
Specifies the loopback interface you want to use as the source for sessions with the neighbor; it must be reachable within the VRF.
ao keychain-name
Specifies the pre-configured TCP authentication keychain to use as the source for sessions with the neighbor.
shutdown
Disables the MSDP peer. Configure this keyword at the MSDP router configuration mode level.

Usage Guidelines

The no form of the command deletes the MSDP peer configuration. You should provide the IP address to identify the MSDP peer configuration to be deleted.

It is not advisable to change the MSDP peer configuration for active connections.

It is not advisable to change the underlying configuration of the TCP AO keychain specified in the MSDP peer configuration or to remove or replace the keychain. Any of these changes may cause the existing MSDP or BGP sessions to flap.

Use the shutdown option at the MSDP router level to disable the MSDP peer.

Note: The PIM Sparse rendezvous point (RP) is also an MSDP peer.
Note: Devices that run MSDP usually also run BGP. The source address used by the MSDP device is normally configured to be the same source address used by BGP.

It is strongly recommended that you specify the connect-source loopback keyword when you configure the msdp-peer command. If you do not, the device uses the IP address of the outgoing interface. You should also make sure that the IP address of the connect-source loopback is the source IP address used by the PIM RP and the BGP device.

Examples

The following example configures a device with the address 205.216.162.1 as an MSDP peer.

device(config-msdp-router)# msdp-peer 205.216.162.1

The following example configures an MSDP peer on a VRF. 

device(config)# router msdp vrf blue
device(config-msdp-router-vrf-blue)# msdp-peer 205.216.162.1 connect-source loopback 1

The following example adds an MSDP peer and specifies a loopback interface as the source interface for sessions with the peer. By default, the device uses the subnet address configured on the physical interface where you configure the peer as the source address for sessions with the peer. 

device(config)# interface loopback 1
device(config-lbif-1)# ip address 9.9.9.9/32
device(config-lbif-1)# exit
device(config)# router msdp
device(config-msdp-router)# msdp-peer 2.2.2.99 connect-source loopback 1

The following example adds an MSDP peer and specifies that the interface loopback 1 and the TCP AO keychain chain1 are to be used for sessions with the peer. 

device(config)# router msdp
device(config-msdp-router)# msdp-peer 2.2.2.1 connect-source loopback 1 ao chain1
