broadcast limit

Configures the maximum number of broadcast packets allowed per second and generates infralogs for pps packets.

Command Default

Broadcast rate limiting is disabled.

Parameters
num
Specifies the maximum number of broadcast packets per second. For kbps, the value can be from 1 through 1000000. For pps, the value can be from 1 through 8388607.
kbps
Enables byte-based limiting. The value can be 1 to Max Port Speed.
When kbps is not specified, the rate limiting happens in packets per second (pps).
log
Enables Syslog logging when the broadcast limit exceeds numkbps.
rate-limit-log
Configures the log timer for the kbps ports. The value can be from 1 through 10 minutes. Default value is 5 minutes.
rate-limit-pps-log
Configures the log timer for the pps ports. The value can be from 1 through 600 seconds. Default value is 300 seconds.
threshold num
Specifies the packet drop count threshold value. For kbps, valid values range from 1 through 1048576. For pps, valid values range from 1 through 8388607.
action
Specifies further action must be taken.
port-shutdown
Specifies that port shutdown is the action taken.
For pps, the port shutdown value is from 1 through 65535. Default value is 5 minutes.

Usage Guidelines

Use the no form of the command to disable broadcast rate limiting.

Examples

The following example enables a broadcast rate limit of 131072 Kbps. 

device(config)# interface ethernet 9/1/1
device(config-if-e1000-9/1/1)# broadcast limit 131072 kbps

The following example enables broadcast limit logging when the configured broadcast limit exceeds 100 Kbps. 

device(config)# interface ethernet 1/2/1
device(config-if-e10000-1/2/1)# broadcast limit 100 kbps log

The following example enables the kbps log timer interval to 3 minutes when kbps rate limit is configured.

device(config)# rate-limit-log 3

The following example enables the pps log timer interval to 200 seconds when pps rate limit is configured.

device(config)# rate-limit-pps-log 200

The following example sets the packet drop count threshold value for kbps to 2000 and specifies that the port shutdown action is taken. 

device(config)# interface ethernet 1/2/1
device(config-if-e10000-1/2/1)# broadcast limit 100 kbps threshold 2000 action port-shutdown 7

The following example sets the packet drop count threshold value for pps to 1500 and specifies that the port shutdown action is taken. 

device(config)# interface ethernet 1/2/2
device(config-if-e10000-1/2/2)# broadcast limit 1500 pps threshold 2000 action port-shutdown 7
