Overlay-gateway site configuration mode
RUCKUS recommends that you enable failure detection keep-alive messages only when you are sending traffic through the VXLAN tunnel.
When failure detection is configured, keep-alive messages are sent at the configured interval. If no response is received, the keep-alive message is resent as many times as configured for the retry count.
If more than one IP address is configured for the site, when the remote site does not respond within the specified time (interval multiplied by count), the next IP address in the numbered series is tried, and if it is determined to be up, it becomes the active connection for the remote site. Only one primary IP address can be configured per site. Up to 15 secondary IP addresses can be configured per site. Only IPv4 addresses can be configured.
If all configured IP addresses are exhausted and all remote sites are unresponsive, the redundancy mechanism sets the keep-alive timer and retry count to their maximum values (20 seconds and 5 retries) and continues to loop through the IP address list checking for an ICMP reply from a remote VTEP. After an ICMP reply is received from a remote VTEP, the keep-alive timer and the retry count values are both reset to the values configured by the user.
RUCKUS recommends that the keep-alive messages not be enabled unless traffic is being sent over the VXLAN tunnel.
The following example sets the keep-alive message interval to 20 secounds and the number of retries to 5. It configures three IP addresses for remote site site1. The primary address is used as the active connection. If the connection fails, secondary address 1 is tried. If secondary address 1 is not detected as up, secondary address 2 is tried. If a connection is detected, the IP address becomes the active connection to VXLAN site site1.
