monitor capture limit

Configures packet capture limits.
Syntax
monitor capture capture-name limit [duration seconds] [packet-length size] [packets number]
Command Default

The default capture parameters include a 60-second timeout, a maximum packet size of 68 bytes, and a 2097152-byte capture buffer.

Parameters
capture-name
Specifies the capture name.
limit
Specifies the packet capture limit.
duration seconds
Specifies the duration of the capture, in seconds. The range is from 1 through 60.
packet-length size
Specifies the packet length, in bytes. If the captured packet is longer than the specified length, the buffer stores only the first set of bytes up to the specified packet-length size. The minimum length of packet is 68 bytes and maximum length of the packet is 1561 bytes.
packets number
Specifies the number of packets to be captured. The number of the packets should be more than 0.

Usage Guidelines

Use the monitor capture buffer size command to change the capture buffer size.

Examples

The following example defines the packet capture limit as 15 seconds; the captured packets will be placed in a buffer called packet-cap.

device# monitor capture packet-cap limit duration 15

The following example defines the packet capture limit as 256 bytes; the captured packets will be placed in a buffer called packet-cap.

device# monitor capture packet-cap limit packet-length 256

The following example defines the packet capture limit as 200 packets; the captured packets will be placed in a buffer called packet-cap.

device# monitor capture packet-cap limit packets 200

The following example defines three packet capture limits: 15 seconds, 256-byte packet length, and 200 packets; the captured packets will be placed in a buffer called packet-cap.

device# monitor capture packet-cap limit duration 15 packet-length 256 packets 200
