Usage Guidelines

The mac-authentication keep-alive command activates the MAC authentication keepalive feature on a global level. To prevent the MAC-authenticated session from aging out when no traffic is being sent from the client, configure the software aging period to a minimum of 120 seconds using the max-sw-age command.

The keepalive feature is only available for IPv4 MAC-authenticated clients. For IPv6 clients, the ICX device sends ND discovery by default, and silent MAC-authenticated devices will be learned by IPv6 ND.

To enable this feature, ICX devices require a VE interface with a valid IPv4 or IPv6 address in the same subnet as the client's IPv4 or IPv6 address.

The no form of the command disables the MAC authentication keepalive globally.

Examples

The following example globally enables MAC authentication keepalive.

device(config)# authentication
device(config-authen)# mac-authentication keep-alive
