`ipv6 address autoconfig`

Enables automatic IPv6 address assignment and option retrieval using stateless or stateful autoconfiguration.

Syntax

ipv6 address
                  				autoconfig

no ipv6 address
                  					autoconfig

Command Default

By default, automatic IPv6 address and option configuration is disabled.

Usage Guidelines

This command is supported on Ethernet, Link Aggregation Group (LAG), and Virtual Ethernet (VE) interfaces.

Attention: After you enter the

no ipv6 address
                  					autoconfig

command on an interface, wait at least 5 seconds before you enter the

no ipv6
                  					enable

command. This needs to be followed to avoid any abnormalities.

The no form of the command disables automatic IPv6 address configuration.

Examples

The following example enables the automatic configuration of an IPv6 address using stateless or stateful autoconfiguration for an Ethernet interface.

device# configure terminal
device(config)# interface ethernet 1/1/10
device(config-if-e1000-1/1/10)# ipv6 enable 
device(config-if-e1000-1/1/10)# ipv6 address autoconfig

The following example removes the dynamic IPv6 address configuration from a VE interface.

device# configure terminal
device(config)# interface ve 1
device(config-vif-1)# no ipv6 address autoconfig
! Wait at least 5 seconds before proceeding
device(config-vif-1)# no ipv6 enable
