Image Upgrade

  • An 802.1BR system requires that all CB and PE units run the same image versions.

  • An image copy requires two steps in an SPX system:

    1. Copy the image to the CB stack units.

    2. Copy the image to the PE units.

Both steps can be completed through a CB management session.

  • If the CB is in a mismatch state, Image Auto-Copy is triggered, and the active controller pushes its image to the CB members that have a mismatched image.

  • When there is a PE image mismatch, you are prompted to enter the TFTP server address where the PE images are stored. If the TFTP server has the correct image, the image is downloaded to the mismatched unit.

    ICX7750-48F Router(config)# tftp-server 10.30.5.182
    image-location /

  • Once the correct image is copied, a reboot for the mismatched units is issued. At the end of the final Auto-Copy process, the system should be operational, and all units should be available for use.

  • If ICX 7450 units are running FastIron 08.0.30 or earlier versions, the units should be manually upgraded to a FastIron 08.0.50 or later image before PE units are enabled to bring them up as SPX clients.

  • If ICX 7250 units are running FastIron 08.0.30 or earlier versions, the units should be manually upgraded to a FastIron 08.0.50 or later image before PE units are enabled to bring them up as SPX clients.

  • If an SPX domain is running FastIron 08.0.50 and needs an upgrade to FastIron 08.0.50a, either a manifest upgrade or a regular image copy to CB and PE units can be performed.

Refer to the Ruckus Campus Fabric Configuration Guide and the Ruckus FastIron Software Upgrade Guide for more information.

The following code sample shows the auto-image upgrade process.

Note: Auto-image upgrade is available in FastIron 08.0.70 and later. The CB and standalone PE candidates must be running FastIron 08.0.70 or later for auto-image upgrade to work.

ICX7750-20Q Router# spx interactive-setup
You can abort spx interactive-setup at any stage by <ctrl-c>
0: quit
1: change PE IDs
2: discover and convert new units (no startup-config flash) to PEs
3: discover and convert existing/new standalone units to PEs
2&3 can also find new links and convert chain(s) to ring.
Please type your selection: 2
