Best Practices

Consider the following best practices for bringing up the SPX topology.

The zero-touch utility is

This section got accidentally removed while editing the document. CI then copy pasted from pdf version. But I could not get the alignment. So please be sure to refer the old Campus fabric and align the same way

not enabled by default on a device. Use the zero-touch-enable command under spx cb-configure

Is spx cbconfigure a command? Is this a mistake? Vandhana "spx cb-configure" is a executable configuration mode

on the CB. Be sure to remove the zero-touch-enable configuration once PE units have been discovered.

  • A new unit has no startup configuration flash during bootup. (The user has never issued the write memory command.)

You can enter the erase startup-config and reload commands to make it a new unit.

    ICX7450-48 Router# erase startup-config
Erase startup-config Done.dhcp server lease database is also removed
stacking/spx pe flash file is also removed
    ICX7450-48 Router# reloadAre you sure? (enter 'y' or 'n'): y

  • Remove the spx allow-pe-movement configuration after the PEs are moved.

Remove the spx allow-pe-movement configuration using the no spx allow-pe-movement command in global configuration mode once the PEs have been moved and the Campus Fabric topology is stable.

    SPX(config)# spx allow-pe-movement
Please remove the spx allow-pe-movement configuration after the PEs are moved
  • Before changing PE IDs, make sure that you know what reconfiguration will be required related to the changed IDs.

  • Do not attempt to change PE IDs when spx allow-pe-movement is configured.

Ruckus recommends changing PE IDs, if necessary, during the initial bring-up of Campus Fabric, before connecting hosts or configuring any protocols.

  • If ports are planned for dedicated use in a Campus Fabric domain, configure the ports as SPX LAGs or SPX ports rather than as zero-touch ports. The zero-touch utility splits them into separate SPX LAGs as needed during the discovery process, using its Auto-LAG capability. This approach helps avoid looping of packets, which can cause high CPU utilization. Refer to Zero-Touch Deployment Considerations for more information.

  • With zero-touch, PE ID assignments are automatically based on the pool of available IDs. If you want to use specific IDs, use the SPX interactive-setup utility.

  • When adding new PE units to existing PE units, use the SPX interactive-setup utility instead of zero-touch. When adding new units to an existing PE linear chain to form an SPX ring, use manual setup instead of zero-touch in releases prior to FastIron 08.0.70.

  • From FastIron 08.0.70 and later, SPX interactive-setup can discover new links between PE and PE or CB and PE when a user tries to make an SPX PE ring topology on an existing linear topology by adding new links. Refer to Deployment Scenario 8: Adding a New Link Between CB-PE or PE-PE to Change Existing Linear Toplogy to Ring Topology.

  • Wait at least 30 seconds before running the SPX interactive-setup utility again.

SPX# spx interactive-setupInteractive-setup ends 15 seconds ago, please retry in 15 sec
