Deployment Scenario 8: Changing a PE Ring to a Linear PE Chain
Follow these steps to remove a PE ring and convert it to two PE chains.
- Reference Topology includes a PE ring. The PE ring is in the active state, and the PE ID configuration
is present in the running configuration.

An SPX port with a live link cannot be
disabled, so you must first disconnect the cable from the port. In this example, the
PE ring is split between PE 20 and PE 21.
