Deployment Scenario 5: Moving SPX Links Between Modules in a PE Ring

Follow this procedure to upgrade an existing 1-Gbps SPX link between PEs to a 10-Gbps link. Use the same procedure to downgrade the 10-Gbps SPX link to 1 Gbps.

  1. In Reference Topology, the PE ring is in the active state, and the PE ID configuration is generated in the running configuration. The SPX link between PE 18 and PE 19 is a 1-Gbps link.

  2. Break the PE ring between PE 18 and PE 19. An SPX port with a live link cannot be disabled, so you must first physically disconnect the cable, in this example, between ports 18/1/13 and 19/1/13. After the cable is disconnected, ports 18/1/13 and 19/1/13 go down, and the PE ring state changes to BREAK.
