AP Registration Rules: Priorities and Workflow

If all the registration rules are configured for an AP, by default, AP discovery based on AP serial number takes precedence. The order of priority for AP discovery is as follows:

  1. AP serial number: The AP Serial Number registration rule is checked.
  2. IP subnet and AP model: If the AP does not have its serial number configured in the Serial Number registration rule, then the IP Subnet/AP Model registration rule is checked in which RND checks for the combination of IP address range using subnet and one or more AP models.
  3. AP model: If the AP does not have the combination of IP subnet and AP model configured in the IP Subnet/AP Model registration rule, then RND checks the AP Model registration rules for a match on the AP model condition.
  4. IP subnet: If the AP does not match any specific AP model condition within the IP Subnet/AP Model registration rules, then RND checks the IP Subnet registration rules for a match on the IP Subnet condition.
  5. Default Registration Rule: If enabled, when an AP does not match any other configured rules, it is automatically handled by the Default Registration Rule. The Default Registration Rule supports nested configurations, allowing you to define rules based on AP models, IP address ranges (subnets), or a combination of both. During AP discovery, when an AP satisfies the criteria defined in the Default Registration Rule, it will be redirected to the specified SZ cluster and zone. If the Default Registration Rule is disabled, this method will be skipped for AP discovery.
  6. If the APs are not configured with any of the registration rules or if the APs do not match any of the configured RND registration rules, RND routes the APs to the configured RND default cluster, and to the staging zone waiting for approval. For this, the default cluster must be configured on RND.

The processing of AP Registration Rules follows a top-down approach where the rules are evaluated sequentially. The first rule that matches the given conditions is applied, and subsequent rules are not processed.

You can change the order of priority and make AP discovery by AP model to take precedence by turning ON the toggle button in the AP Model tab which enables the Always prioritize by AP Model functionality. If the Always prioritize by AP Model functionality is enabled, it takes effect for the APs that are already configured. If the AP model registration rule enabled with the Always prioritize by AP Model functionality is configured, the order of priority for AP discovery is as follows:

  1. AP model
  2. AP serial number
  3. IP subnet and AP model
  4. IP subnet
  5. Default Registration Rule (if enabled)
  6. If the AP are not configured with any of the registration rules or if the APs do not match any of the configured RND registration rules, RND routes the APs to the configured RND default cluster, and to the staging zone waiting for approval. For this, the default cluster must be configured on RND.
