Managing Syslog Messages

You can configure the logging host (syslog server) to which syslogs are sent. Events that are logged by the device can be viewed and downloaded for debugging and troubleshooting purposes.

Complete the following steps to configure the logging host and view and download the syslog messages.

  1. From the main menu, select Management > Syslog.
    The configured servers are displayed in the Logging Host and syslogs are listed in the SYSLOG pane.

    You can perform the following actions:
    • Add a logging host: To add a logging host, continue to step 2.
    • Delete a logging host: Click the icon to delete an existing server.
  2. In the Logging Host pane, click the icon to display the Add Logging Host dialog box.

  3. Complete the following fields:
    • Host IP: Enter the remote host address (either an IPv4 address or IPv6 address).
    • UDP Port: Enter the UDP port number. Allowed values are 1–65535; if no UDP port value is entered, port 514 will be used by the system.
  4. Click Apply to add the logging host.
    The SYSLOG pane displays the log details described in the following table.

    Field Description
    Date Time Displays the date and time when the message was generated.
    Description Displays a description of the event.
    Severity Displays the severity level. The messages are listed by severity level in the following order:
    • Emergency (M)
    • Alert (A)
    • Critical (C)
    • Error (E)
    • Warning (W)
    • Notification (N)
    • Informational (I)
    • Debugging (D)
    • Others (O)
  5. Click the icon to refresh the data in the SYSLOG table. At any time, you can use the Search fields (available in each column) to find and display only the table entries matching the specified search criteria. You can also reorder the table content by date/time, description, or severity, by clicking the associated column header.
  6. Click the icon to download the logs to the local machine.
