Setting GPS Coordinates Using the SWIPE Mobile Application

The regulatory requirement mandates AFC geolocation to determine the permissibility of transitioning to substitution-permutation in specific channels. It is different from the concept of the GPS coordinates of the Zone configuration that can be manually entered. The identification of the geographic location of a device is based on various data collected from different areas of the same place.

Location data configured through the RUCKUS SWIPE mobile application for a RUCKUS Wi-Fi 6e/7 AP takes precedence over the GPS location detected by the AP.

If the AP does not detect the GPS location or if the geolocation of the AP is not set through the mobile application, the geolocation of the AP is obtained through the geolocator.

RUCKUS Geolocation Service calculates the AFC Geolocation of the neighbor APs, to reduce the user's effort to set AFC geolocation by mobile application.

To set the GPS coordinates of the AP using the RUCKUS SWIPE mobile app on your mobile device, complete the following steps:
  1. From the RUCKUS SWIPE mobile application, enter your login credentials and click LOG IN.
  2. Access the list of APs for your desired domain or zone by selecting the Domains/Zones menu option, navigating to your desired domain or zone, and clicking Done.

You can click Manage on the banner to see the list of 6 GHz APs.
  3. Click Manage on the AP list screen, then click Zone Height.
Note: An alternative method is to open the SWIPE app main menu, select Geo-Location, then click Zone Height.

    Side Menu

A screen prompting to enter the minimum and maximum number of floors in the building is displayed, if this configuration has not been already setup for that Zone. When dealing with basement floors, users can indeed enter negative values for the minimum floor. For example, if the basement level is labeled as B1, you can enter −1 as the minimum floor. This allows for a consistent representation of floor levels regardless of whether they are above or below ground.

    Setting the Zone Height

  4. Enter the Min Floor and the Max Floor (to reflect the range of floors on which the APs may be located within the venue) for the Domain or Zone, then click Set Height.
Note: If the Zone Height is not set prior to setting the geolocation on an AP, an error is displayed stating that you must set Zone Height before proceeding. If Zone Height is already set, then text is changed from Set Height to Update Height.
After setting the Zone Height, two tabs are displayed on the screen. The No Geo-Location tab list the APs which does not have the geolocation set and the Geo-Location set tab which list the APs that have the geolocation configured.

    APs Without Geolocation

APs that need attention to set Geo-Location are listed.

  5. To set the geolocation for the APs, click Set or Change beside the respective AP.
The Set Geo-Location screen is displayed.

  6. Complete the following steps to locate and get GPS coordinates.
    1. In the Step 1 (Locate this AP) tile, click Blink AP LEDs. This will make the LED Power light on the corresponding AP start blinking, helping you identify the device for which you want to set the geolocation.
    2. After you have identified the AP, click I have located this AP and can provide its accurate location. A check mark appears and the wizard proceeds to the Step 2 (Get GPS Coordinates) tile.

      Setting the GPS Coordinates

    3. Move your mobile device as close as practicable to the AP. You will then see the GPS location displayed on the Google map.
    4. After verifying the location in the Google map, click GPS coordinates have been set. A check mark appears and the wizard proceeds to the Step 3 (Complete the AP Location Data) tile.

      AP Location - Floor Number

    5. In the Step 3 (Complete the AP Location Data) tile, enter the Floor Number where the AP is placed, and click AP Location data has been set. A check mark appears and the Apply Location button becomes active.
    6. Click Apply Location.
The geolocation settings are applied to the AP.

      Applying Location Settings

After applying the location settings, the AP is moved from the list in No Geo-Location to the list in Geo-Location set, and may be considered a reference AP.
