Creating a Zone

Zones function as a way of grouping the access points and WLANs and applying group settings, including firmware, radio band, spectrum, WLANs, and other advanced options. SmartZone implements default settings to allow you to quickly create a usable, new zone, which you can subsequently edit, as necessary, to meet your network requirements.

rephrased the short description per Orlando's reivew comments.

Follow these steps to create a new zone or edit an existing one:

  1. From the main menu, click Network > Wireless > Access Points.
  2. (Optionally), navigate to Network > Wireless > Wireless LANs.

Note: The options available when accessing the zone configuration from the Access Points page are the same options available when accessing from the Wireless LANs page.

  3. From the System tree hierarchy, select the location where you want to create the zone (for example, the System level or a Domain), and click the icon to create a new zone. Optionally, edit an existing zone by selecting the zone you want to edit and click the icon to edit it.

Note: For the vSZ-E and SZ-144 platforms, the System level of the hierarchy is the only valid location option. When you click the icon, the Create Zone pop-up window defaults to Type set to Zone. However, for the vSZ-H and platform, you may also select a specific System Domain, Partner Domain, or subdomain location. In this case, when you click the icon, the Create Zone pop-up window has two options for Type, you must select Zone.

  4. In the Create Zone window, you must configure the following:
    • Name: Enter a name for the zone.

    • AP Admin Logon: Enter an AP Admin Logon ID and Password (found in the General Options section). These credentials are intended to access the Command Line Interface (CLI) of the APs when connecting to them using an SSH client/terminal like PuTTY.
Note: All other fields on the Create Zone pop-up window are optional; configure as necessary. For more information, refer to Access Point and Zone Configuration Options.
  5. Click OK to complete the initial creation of the zone.
