Remote Access Configuration Using Telnet

Remote access to RUCKUS devices using Telnet does not, by default, require a user name or password. For security reasons setting a Telnet password to secure Telnet access is recommended. Further configuration options for Telnet users are available.

The following Telnet remote access options are disabled by default:

  • Setting a Telnet password
  • Suppressing Telnet connection rejection messages—if the device denies Telnet management access, the software sends a message to the denied Telnet client. You can configure suppression of these messages and just deny access to the Telnet client.
  • Restricting Telnet access based on the client IP or MAC address or a combination of IP and MAC addresses
  • Defining the Telnet idle time—how many minutes a Telnet session can remain idle before it is timed out. An idle Telnet session is still sending TCP ACKs in response to keepalive messages from the device, but is not being used to send data. A value of 0 means no timeout and the session remains up.
  • Configuration of the number of login attempts before users are locked out
