Adding VLAN Interfaces (VEs)

You can select a switch from a venue and add Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) interfaces, otherwise known as Virtual Ethernets (VEs), to it.
added more context info to topic - updated for Baby Rodan feature.

VLAN interfaces (or VEs) are virtual ports used to manage and route traffic within and between VLANs, providing the following benefits:

  • Network Segmentation: VEs divide a physical network into multiple logical networks, reducing broadcast traffic and improving performance.
  • Security: They isolate sensitive data by separating traffic into distinct VLANs, enhancing security.
  • Management: VEs simplify network management by allowing logical grouping of devices, making configuration easier.
  • Inter-VLAN Communication: They enable communication between different VLANs, essential for interconnected network segments.
  • Performance and Scalability: VEs improve network performance and scalability by minimizing broadcast traffic and allowing easy network expansion.
Complete the following steps to add VLAN interfaces (otherwise known as VEs) to a specific switch.
  1. On the navigation bar, select Wired > Switches > Switch List.
The Switch Details page is displayed.
  2. Click on the name of the switch.
    The Overview page is displayed.
  3. Select the Routed Interfaces sub-tab.
  4. Click the Add VLAN Interface (VE) option.
The Add VE Port sidebar is displayed.
  5. Configure the following fields to add a VE Port:
    • Switch: Select the switch name.

The ICX 8100 series now supports static routing across multiple virtual interfaces, enhancing Layer 3 capabilities. Support for VE interface configuration has been enhanced for the following ICX 8100 series switch models:
