Getting to Know the Dashboard

The Dashboard provides a comprehensive overview of the IoT network, presenting real-time statistics and visual summaries of key metrics such as IoT access points by device count, radio personal area network (PAN) modes, device protocol distribution, and recent device activity.

It allows you to quickly assess network health, identify trends, and monitor connectivity across all IoT devices from a single, centralized interface.

Upon login to the RUCKUS IoT Controller, a What's New in IoT Controller screen pops up. Click Start Product Tour to explore the IoT features or click Got it to close the screen and return to Dashboard.

What's New

Global Header

The header region spans the GUI browser window and remains fixed no matter where you navigate within the GUI. The header displays the controller-specific information and provides access to additional resources and to your user account. The following table describes the header elements:

Global Header Elements

Component Description
Name Displays the name of the RUCKUS IoT Controller.
Status Displays the High Availability (HA) status of the RUCKUS IoT Controller.
IoT Version Displays the current version of the RUCKUS IoT Controller.
Date and Time Displays the date and time of the RUCKUS IoT Controller.

When you hover over the icon, a menu appears with the following options:

  • What's New: Opens the What's New in VRIOT window. Click Start Product Tour to explore IoT features or click Got it to close the window.
  • Start Tour: Launches a guided walkthrough of the user interface.
  • API Docs: Provides documentation for API integration.
User Icon

Indicates the logged-in user.

When you click the user icon, a menu appears with the following options:

Dashboard

The Dashboard, which is the landing page, offers an overall picture and status of the IoT infrastructure. The top portion displays the status of IoT APs, Radios, RUCKUS capacity (RCAP) licenses, and Network Health. The lower portion displays the IoT widgets.

The following table describes the dashboard elements.

Dashboard Elements

Tile and Widget Names Description
IoT AP Status

Displays the total number of IoT Access Points (APs) along with their current operational state. Click the count to open the APs page and view the APs.

  • Online (green): The AP is active and communicating normally with the controller.
  • Offline (orange): The AP is currently unreachable or not responding.
  • Unapproved (grey): The AP has been detected but has not yet been approved for use on the network.

Radio Status

Displays the total number of IoT radios along with their current operational state. Click the count to open the Radios page and view the Radios.

  • Online (green): The radio is active and functioning normally, with a healthy connection to the controller.
  • Offline (orange): The radio is not active or is unable to communicate with the controller, indicating a potential connectivity or configuration issue.

RCAP Status

Displays the total number of RCAP licenses associated with the RUCKUS IoT Controller, along with their usage status. Click the count to open the License page and view the RCAP Licese Usage.

  • Used (blue): The number of licenses that are currently in use by connected devices.
  • Available (green): The number of licenses that remain free and can be assigned to new devices.

Total Devices Displays the total number of IoT devices along with their current provisioned status.
  • Provisioned (green): The number of devices that are successfully configured and active in the system.
  • Not Provisioned (orange): Displays the number of devices detected but not yet configured or onboarded.
Network Health

Displays the status of different components and their connections, by means of a topology map with hover-over details.

Devices Last Seen

Displays the total number of devices last seen.

IoT APs By Device Count

Displays the total number of devices connected per Access Point.

Devices by Battery Level Displays the status of devices that are grouped together by battery level.
Active Plugins

Displays the plugins that are enabled.

Device Distribution by Protocol

Displays the total number of devices connected by the protocol being used.

RUCKUS supports two protocols: BLE and Zigbee.

Radio PAN Modes

Displays the number of radios running by the protocol being used.

RUCKUS supports two protocols: BLE and Zigbee.

Network Health

The Network Health diagram is designed to help administrators monitor the health, connectivity, and data flow between the controller, access points, and integrated IoT services. It provides a quick visual overview to identify which elements are operational, unreachable, or experiencing issues.

Color-coded lines and icons highlight the communication status:

  • Green indicates normal connectivity.
  • Red highlights unreachable or failed connections.
  • Orange indicates a mixed connection status.

Click the icon to view the topology map in fullscreen mode while maintaining the hover-over functionality.

By combining the topology map with hover-over details, Network Health helps you to quickly identify issues, verify connection status, and monitor the overall stability of the RUCKUS IoT Controller infrastructure.
