Stack Interactive-setup Example with Ring Topology

The discovered topology includes two units, indicated as #1 and #2 by the order of their discovery. In this case, the system reports a single chain/ring discovered. In fact, the potential connection forms a continuous ring, which is presented as a single entity for selection as shown in the following snippet.
Chain #0: ==================================================================
#1: icx7750-48-xgc-port-management cc4e.2439.1a00
#2: icx7750-26-qxg-port-management cc4e.2439.3700

+---+ +---+
Discovered 1 chain/ring
Chain #0: Do you want to select this chain? (enter 'y' or 'n'): y
The ID selection of both new units is the same as in the previous example. It is not displayed here.
The ring topology is easier to identify in the final full diagram the system presents for confirmation as shown in the following snippet.
You selected 2 unit(s): #1: ID=3, #2: ID=2,
#1 #2
+---+ +---+ +---+
-2/4| 1 |2/1==2/1| 3 |2/4--2/4| 2 |2/1-
| +---+ +---+ +---+ |
| |
|-------------------------------------|
Proceeding will produce the above topology. Do you accept it? (enter 'y' or 'n'): y
stack interactive-setup discovers 2 unit(s) and sends stack-port/trunk to chain 0:
#1 cc4e.2439.1a00 U3, D0: 2/1 to 2/3, D1: 2/4
#2 cc4e.2439.3700 U2, D0: 2/1, D1: 2/4
The originating unit, unit 1, forms a trunk through ports 1/2/1 and 3/2/1 as indicated by the double dashed line. Unit 1 also forms a stacking connection through port 1/2/4 and port 2/2/1. As the discovered units were already connected, a ring is formed. The output indicates the direction of the different connections. In the example, unit 3 (center) has a direction 0 connection on the stacking trunk 3/2/1 to 3/2/3 (connected to unit 1) and a direction 1 connection on port 3/2/4 (connected to unit 2).
Because unit 1 created a stacking trunk, the configuration has changed and must be saved as indicated in the following snippet.
stack-trunk 1/2/1 to 1/2/3 replaces stack-port 1/2/1 Enlarge stack-port 1/2/1 to stack-trunk 1/2/1 to 1/2/3 to match links. Configuration changed. Please do "write memory"
After you confirm the stack topology and save the configuration, all stack members
except the active controller reload. You must again issue a
write memory command to save the stacking-related configuration changes for the new stack units.
You can verify the stack formation with the
show stack command as shown in the following example. Additional
show commands are available for checking stack status and configuration as described in
Verifying a traditional stack configuration.

In the ring stack formed in the example, unit 1 is labeled the active controller, and unit 2 has been assigned the standby controller role.
Each stack unit produces log entries on stack formation as shown in the following example for unit 2. The log includes information on synchronization with the stack, reboot, power supply status, and stacking role and configuration. As noted in the linear stack example, after the unit has joined the stack, its prompt changes (in the following example, to [MEMBER] local-2@ICX7750-26Q Router>) to reflect it is operating as a stack member, not an independent device.

You can abort stack interactive-setup at any stage by <ctrl-c>
0: quit
1: change stack unit IDs
2: discover and convert new units (no startup-config flash) to members
3: discover and convert existing/new standalone units to members
2&3 can also find new links and auto-trunk or convert chain(s) to ring.
