ICX 7650 Stack Configuration Overview

The following table provides an overview of ICX 7650 stacking capabilities.

ICX 7650 Stacking Capabilities

Stacking Capability ICX 7650 Additional Information
Topologies supported Ring and linear

ICX 7650 devices can operate in a stack only when the rear module (Module 3) is in stacking mode. Stacking is not available when the rear module is configured in uplink mode. Refer to ICX 7650 rear-module options for more information.

Refer to ICX 7650 stacking topologies for sample linear and ring topologies.

Maximum stack size 12 Stacking only. Can serve as Control Bridge stack in 802.1br (Campus Fabric) configurations. Any combination of ICX 7650 devices can be stacked.
Maximum stacking distance 40 kilometers Refer to FastIron stacking distances and optics by device for more information.
Stacking ports ICX 7650 devices support 40-Gbps and 100-Gbps stacking.

Module 3 supports 4 X 40-Gbps stacking or 2 X 100-Gbps stacking (the default).

Stacking port speeds can be changed to 40-Gbps with the rear-module stack-40G command. Refer to Changing ICX 7650 stacking speed for instructions.

Refer to ICX 7650 stacking ports for module and port locations.
Valid-stack-port sets

For 100-Gbps stacking: (x/3/1, x/3/2, 1)

For 40-Gbps stacking: (x/3/1, x/3/3, 2)

Note: The third number in the set is the maximum number of ports in a stacking trunk. One indicates stack-port only.

Refer to the definition of valid-stack-port set in Stacking terminology and Valid-stack-port sets for more information.

Refer to ICX 7650 stacking ports for module and port locations.

Reconfigurable ports Supported

The rear-module command can be used to change stacking port speeds or to reconfigure stacking ports as uplink ports and vice versa.

Note: Valid-stack-port sets are specific to stacking port speed settings and cannot be reconfigured.

Stack trunks Supported

2 X 40-Gbps bidirectional trunks are supported on ports 1/3/1 to 1/3/2 and ports 1/3/3 to 1/3/4.

Note: When stacking port speed changes, existing stacking trunk configuration may be removed.

Refer to Configuring an ICX 7650 trunk manually on a non-production system and Configuring an ICX 7650 stacking trunk on a live system.

Linear-topology trunks

For 100-Gbps: stack-trunk x/3/1 to x/3/2

For 40-Gbps: stack-trunk x/3/1 to x/3/4

Refer to Support for two-unit stack linear-topology trunks for more information.

Hitless switchover and hitless failover Supported Refer to Hitless stacking.
License requirements Premium Layer 3, MACsec

Static routing and RIP are the only Layer 3 protocols available without a license. All other Layer 3 protocols require a Premium Layer 3 license.

A separate license is required for MACsec.

Refer to the RUCKUS FastIron Software Licensing Guide for more information.

Configuration options Manual and automatic, including stack interactive-setup and zero-touch provisioning Refer to Stack construction methods.
Access methods TFTP, SCP Software images, boot images, and signatures can be downloaded to a stack using TFTP and SCP. Refer to the RUCKUS FastIron Software Upgrade Guide for more information.
Stacking commands All stacking CLI is available on ICX 7650 devices unless otherwise noted on the command reference page.
