Manually Creating a Two-unit ICX 7850 Stack with a Ring Topology

Perform the following steps to manually create a two-unit ICX 7850 stack with a ring topology.
  1. (Optional) Enter the show running-config command on each stack unit to check its current configuration.
The following example shows two stacking units each with stacking ports configured.
    Unit 1:
    ICX7850-32Q Router# show running-config
    Current configuration:
    !
    ver 08.0.90_b313T233
    !
    stack unit 1
      module 1 icx7850-32q-port-management-module
      module 2 icx7800-100g-12port-1200g-module
      module 3 icx7800-100g-8port-800g-module
      stack-port 1/3/1
      stack-port 1/3/5

    aaa authentication login default local
    enable aaa console
    !
    no telnet server
    username super password .....
    !
    !
    sz registrar
    !
    !
    End

    Unit 2:
    ICX7850-48FS Router# show running-config
    Current configuration:
    !
    ver 08.0.90_b313T233
    !
    stack unit 1
      module 1 icx7850-48fs-port-management-module
      module 2 icx7800-100g-8port-800g-module
      stack-port 1/2/1
      stack-port 1/2/5
    !
    !
    aaa authentication web-server default local
    aaa authentication login default local
    enable aaa console
    !
    no telnet server
    username super password .....
    !
    !
    sz registrar
    !
    !
    End

  2. Manually configure the desired stack-ports or stack-trunks on the two candidate stack units. To configure a ring, configure two potential connections on each unit.
The following example creates two four-port stacking trunks on each stacking candidate.
    Unit 1:
    ICX7850-32Q Router# configure terminal
    ICX7850-32Q Router(config)# stack unit 1
    ICX7850-32Q Router(config-unit-1)# stack-trunk 1/3/1 to 1/3/4
    stack-trunk 1/3/1 to 1/3/4 replaces stack-port 1/3/1
    ICX7850-32Q Router(config-unit-1)# stack unit 1
    ICX7850-32Q Router(config-unit-1)# stack-trunk 1/3/5 to 1/3/8
    stack-trunk 1/3/5 to 1/3/8 replaces stack-port 1/3/5

    Unit 2:
    ICX7850-48FS Router# configure terminal
    ICX7850-48FS Router(config)# stack unit 1
    ICX7850-48FS Router(config-unit-1)# stack-trunk 1/2/1 to 1/2/4
    stack-trunk 1/2/1 to 1/2/4 replaces stack-port 1/2/1
    ICX7850-48FS Router(config-unit-1)# stack-trunk 1/2/5 to 1/2/8
    stack-trunk 1/2/5 to 1/2/8 replaces stack-port 1/2/5
    ICX7850-48FS Router(config-unit-1)# end

  3. Enter the stack enable command on both the units to enable stacking.
    Unit 1:
    ICX7850-32Q Router# configure terminal
    ICX7850-32Q Router(config)# stack enable
Enable stacking. This unit actively participates in stacking

    Unit 2:
    ICX7850-48FS Router# configure terminal
    ICX7850-48FS Router(config)# stack enable
Enable stacking. This unit actively participates in stacking

Stack active controller election occurs on the connected units, and the second unit reloads to join to the stacking system.
