Considerations for Converting ICX 7550 Module 2 from Stacking to Data Uplink
Module 2 of an ICX 7550 device has two modes:
- default stacking mode, which allows the device to enable stacking features and form a stacking system
- data uplink mode, which uses Module 2 ports as data ports and does not allow a stack to form.
Module 2 can be configured for data uplink mode with the
slot 2 uplink-100g command. The new configuration must be saved and reloaded as shown in the procedure
Converting from Stacking to Data Uplink on ICX 7550 Module 2 before data uplink mode becomes operational. Once Module 2 is operating in data uplink
mode, the ICX 7550 device cannot form a stacking system, and ports x/2/1 and x/2/2
can be configured just like other data ports.
Keep the following items in mind before converting Module 2 on an ICX 7550 device from stacking to data uplink.
- Module 2 can be converted from stacking to data uplink mode only on ICX 7550-24F, ICX 7550-48F, ICX 7550-24ZP, and ICX 7550-48ZP devices.
- ICX7550-24F and ICX7550-24ZP devices have only one port, 1/2/2, that can support "slot 2 uplink-100g" configuration. (There is no port 1/2/1 in 100-Gbps data uplink mode on these devices.)
- Stacking-to-data conversion can be performed only on a standalone unit. A stack system
containing more than one unit cannot use the
slot 2 uplink-100gcommand to configure data uplink. - If Module 2 has "slot 2 uplink-100g" configuration, it may operate at 40-Gbps speed if the connector supports 40-Gbps.
- An ICX 7550 device operating in data uplink mode allows configuration of stacking features. However, the configuration is retained offline. RUCKUS recommends configuring stacking features when a unit is operating in default stacking mode, not in data uplink mode.
- ICX 7550 Module 2 ports in data uplink mode can still be used as data ports even if "stack enable" or stack-port" is configured.
