cli timeout

Sets timeout for CLI session inactivity

Syntax

cli timeout { time }

no cli timeout { time }

Command Default

The default timeout is 2 minutes.

Parameters

time: The time in minutes a serial session can remain idle, after which the CLI session is terminated for inactivity. Available range is 0 through 240. The default is 2 minutes.

Usage Guidelines

The no form of the command resets the timeout to the default value.

If the timeout is set to "0" the CLI session never times out.

The CLI session timeout also controls rconsole (remote console), Telnet, and SSH sessions.

You can display the configuration for the current session using the show cli config command.

Examples

The following example sets the CLI session to time out after three minutes of inactivity.

device# configure terminal
device(config)# cli timeout 3

The following example sets CLI and remote console sessions to never time out.

device(config)# cli timeout 0
device(config)# exit

device# show cli config
