Changing the Speed on an SPX Link

From FastIron release 08.0.80, 1-Gbps SPX connections are supported between CB units and PE units. Ports on CB units intended to provide SPX links to attached PE units are likely to be configured with different speeds. The following procedure explains how to change the speed and form an active SPX connection to a directly attached PE unit. The same approach can be used to change to another speed, for example, 10-Gbps SPX links.

Note: To change the speed between a 10-Gbps cascade PE and new potential PE units connected to it, refer to Converting 1-Gbps SPX links on downstream PEs to 10-Gbps links.
  1. From the active controller of the CB, unconfigure the SPX port or LAG to convert it to a data connection.
Note: The no multi-spx-lag command cannot be used to remove the sole link from the PE to the CB. In this case, refer to Converting attached PE candidate speed by physically disconnecting the units.
    device# configure terminal
device(config)# spx unit 17Converting attached PE candidate speed by physically disconnecting the units
    device(config-spx-unit-17)# no multi-spx-lag 17/2/1 17/2/3 and 2/1/31 2/1/32
    device(config-spx-unit-17)# exit

The example removes SPX configuration from ports 17/2/1, 17/2/3, 2/1/31, and 2/1/32 and disables the ports.
  2. Enable the resulting data port or ports, and use the speed-duplex 1000-full command to change the speed configuration to 1 Gbps.
    device(config)# interface ethernet 17/2/1
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-17/2/1)# enable
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-17/2/1)# speed-duplex 1000-full
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-17/2/1)# exit
    device(config)# interface ethernet 17/2/3
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-17/2/3)# enable
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-17/2/3)# speed-duplex 1000-full
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-17/2/3)# exit
    device(config)# interface ethernet 2/1/31
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-2/1/31)# enable
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-2/1/31)# speed-duplex 1000-full
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-2/1/31)# exit
    device(config)# interface ethernet 2/1/32
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-2/1/32)# enable
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-2/1/32)# speed-duplex 1000-full
    device(config-if-pe-e10000-2/1/32)# exit

The example enables the ports and changes the speed of the data ports formed when SPX configuration was removed.
  3. Reconfigure the port or ports as SPX ports.
    device(config)# spx unit 17
    device(config-spx-unit-17)# spx-lag 17/2/1 17/2/3
    device(config-spx-unit-17)# spx cb-configure
    device(config-spx-cb)# spx-lag 2/1/31 2/1/32
    device(config-spx-cb)# exit
    device(config)#
