Metro Ring Protocol Configuration Notes

  • When you configure Metro Ring Protocol (MRP), RUCKUS recommends that you disable one of the ring interfaces before beginning the ring configuration. Disabling an interface prevents a Layer 2 loop from occurring while you are configuring MRP on the ring nodes. Once the MRP is configured and enabled on all the nodes, you can re-enable the interface.
  • Configurations can be set as MRP masters or MRP members (for different rings).
  • If you configure MRP on a device running Layer 3 software and then restart the device running Layer 2 software, the MRP configuration will be deleted.
  • PVST+ packets received on MRP ring interfaces will be forwarded and cause network disruption. Enabling STP Protection will prevent the MRP ring from flooding PVST+ packets inside the ring.
