Removing an ICX 7650 Trunk on a Live System

Follow these steps to remove a stacking trunk and convert connections to individual links at both ends of the connection on an ICX 7650 production stack.
  1. (Optional) Enter the show stack command to verify the stack configuration.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router# show stack

The example shows a two-unit stack in a ring configuration with two trunks configured between the two units.
  2. (Optional) Enter the show running-config command for additional information on the stack.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router# show running-config | inc stack

Stack ports are operating at 40G.
The example shows specific port-to-port connections for the stacking trunks and confirms that the stack is operating in 40-Gbps stacking mode.
  3. Enter stack unit configuration mode.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router# configure terminal
    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config)# stack unit 1
    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config-unit-1)#

  4. Enter the multi-stack-port command followed by the set of ports on either end of the live trunk to convert to stacking ports.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config-unit-1)# multi-stack-port ethernet 1/3/1 and ethernet 2/3/1
    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config-unit-1)# end

The example removes a stacking trunk and converts these ports to stacking ports on both ends of the link: ports 1/3/1, 1/3/2, 2/3/1, and 2/3/2.
Note: Starting from FastIron release 09.0.00, the multi-stack-port and multi-stack-trunk commands disable a port when it transits from stacking port to data port to avoid potential loops. However, this feature does not apply to ICX 7650 devices because the rear-module ports cannot be used as data ports, even without stack-port or stack-trunk configuration.
  5. Repeat the previous steps if you are removing two live trunks.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router# configure terminal
    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config)# stack unit 1
    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config-unit-1)# multi-stack-port ethernet 1/3/3 and ethernet 2/3/3

    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config-unit-1)# end

    ICX7650-48ZP Router#

The example removes the stacking trunk configuration at both ends of the remaining trunk and converts these ports to stacking ports: 1/3/3, 1/3/4, 2/3/3, and 2/3/4.
  6. Enter the write memory command in privileged EXEC mode to save the configuration.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router# write memory

    ICX7650-48ZP Router#
The example saves the 40-Gbps stacking configuration with no trunks present.
  7. (Optional) Enter the show stack command to confirm the configuration.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router# show stack
