Converting from Module 2 Data Uplink to Stacking Mode on an ICX 7550 Device

Be sure port connections are correct before changing modes or speeds. Be sure local and remote ports operate in the same mode and at the same speed.
Note: ICX 7550 devices cannot operate in a stack when Module 2 is configured for data uplink. Stacking election mechanisms and all stacking operations, including IPC communications, are blocked in data uplink mode.

Complete the following steps to convert Module 2 of an ICX 7550 device from data uplink to stacking mode.

  1. (Optional) Verify the configuration.
    ICX-7550# show stack
T=2m30.1: alone: standalone, D: dynamic cfg, S: static
ID Type Role Mac Address Pri State Comment
    1 S ICX7550-24F alone 0011.2233.4455 0 local None:0

         +---+
      2/2| 1 |
         +---+
Current stack management MAC is 0011.2233.4455
    slot 2: config = oper = uplink-100g

  2. Enter global configuration mode.
    ICX-7550# configure terminal
    ICX-7550(config)#

  3. Enter the no slot 2 uplink-100g command to restore the Module 2 default mode.
    ICX-7550(config)# no slot 2 uplink-100g
Slot profile change requires write memory and reload to take effect.
Slot 2 will be operating in default stack mode with 40Gbps speed after reload.

  4. Enter the write memory command to save the change.
    ICX-7550(config)# write memory

  5. (Optional) Check the resulting configuration.
The following example shows that the configured mode and the operational mode are different, indicating that the new configuration has not yet been reloaded.
    ICX-7550# show stack

***** Warning! stack is not enabled. *****

T=13m35.8: alone: standalone, D: dynamic cfg, S: static

         +---+
Current stack management MAC is 28b3.7129.8856
    slot 2: config stack-40g/100g, oper uplink-100g

  6. Reload the unit to put the mode change into effect.
    ICX-7550(config)# exit
    ICX-7550# reload

After the reload, the unit is returned to default stacking mode. Stacking is not enabled.
  7. (Optional) Verify the final configuration.
The following example shows that the default 100-Gbps stacking mode has been restored. Stacking is not enabled.
    ICX-7550# show stack

***** Warning! stack is not enabled. *****

Current stack management MAC is 28b3.7129.8856
    slot 2: config = oper = stack-40g/100g
All UP stack ports operate at 100G

The following example converts Module 2 on an ICX 7550 device from data uplink to default mode (stacking, with speed automatically determined from optics attached).

ICX-7550# show stack

ICX-7550# configure terminal
ICX-7550(config)# no slot 2 uplink-100g
Changes require reload to take effect. Please do write memory and then reload or power cycle!!!
Slot 2 will be operating in default mode after reload.

ICX-7550(config)# exit
ICX-7550# write memory
ICX-7550# show stack
