ICX 8100 Stack Configuration Overview

The following table provides an overview of ICX 8100 stacking capabilities.

Stacking is supported on ICX 8100-X models starting with FastIron firmware version 10.0.10h.

Note: Stacking requires 10-Gbps ports, therefore, stacking is not supported on the following ICX 8100 models: ICX 8100-C08PF, ICX 8100-C16P, ICX 8100-24, ICX 8100-24P, ICX 8100-48, ICX8100-48P, and ICX 8100-48PF.
Downgrading from 10.0.10h to an earlier firmware version will disrupt the stack, as those versions do not support ICX 8100 stacking. While downgrading, the following warning message appears on your screen: You are downgrading to a firmware version that does not support ICX 8100 stacking. Reloading the device will cause the stack to break. RUCKUS recommends you proceed with caution to avoid stack failures.

ICX 8100 Stacking Capability

Stacking Capability ICX 8100 Additional Information
Topologies supported Ring and linear Refer to ICX 8100 stacking topologies for more information.
Maximum stack size 4 Stacking only.
Maximum stacking distance

40 kilometers

Refer to FastIron stacking distances and optics by device for more information.
ICX 8100 model combinations Only the 8100-X models support stacking If a "non 8100-X' model is added to a stack of 8100-X models, the stack will break.
Stacking ports

4 or 2 X 10 Gbps

ICX 8100-C08PF-X / C16P-X: ports 1/2/1 to 1/2/2

ICX 8100-48-X, ICX 8100-48P-X, ICX 8100-48PF-X, ICX 8100-24-X, and ICX 8100-24P-X models: ports 1/2/1 to 1/2/4

Stacking port speeds are auto-detected.

Valid-stack-port sets

ICX 8100-C08PF-X / C16P-X: (x/2/1, x/2/2, 1)

ICX 8100-24-X / 24P-X / 48-X / 48P-X / 48PF-X: (x/2/1, x/2/3, 2)

Note: The third number in the set is the maximum number of ports in a stacking trunk. The number "1" indicates a single stack-port only.

Refer to the definition of valid-stack-port set in Stacking Terminology for more information.

Refer to ICX 8100 Stacking Topologies for port locations.

Reconfigurable ports Use the stack-port and stack-trunk commands to reconfigure ports. Stacking port speeds are auto-detected and cannot be configured.
Trunks

The following maximum stacking trunk configurations are supported:

ICX 8100-24-X / 24P-X / 48-X / 48P-X / 48PF-X models: stack-trunk 1/2/1 to 1/2/2, stack-trunk 1/2/3 to 1/2/4

See also "Linear-topology trunks" in this table.
Linear-topology trunks The following maximum linear-topology trunks are supported:

ICX 8100-C08PF-X / C16P-X: 2-port linear-topology-trunk: stack-trunk x/2/1 to x/2/2

ICX 8100-24-X / 24P-X / 48-X / 48P-X / 48PF-X: 4-port linear-topology-trunk: stack-trunk x/2/1 to x/2/4

Refer to Configuring Two-unit Stack Linear-topology Trunks for more information.

Hitless switchover and hitless failover Supported Refer to Hitless Stacking.
License requirements

All ICX 8100-X devices include a license for 10-Gbps stacking.

For more information on ICX 8100 license options, refer to the RUCKUS FastIron Software Licensing Guide.
Configuration options Manual and automatic, including stack interactive-setup and stack zero-touch provisioning Refer to Stack Construction Methods.
Access methods TFTP, SCP Software images, boot images, and signatures can be downloaded to a stack using TFTP and SCP applications. Refer to the RUCKUS FastIron Software Upgrade Guide for more information.
Stacking commands All stacking commands are supported on ICX 8100-X devices unless otherwise stated on the command reference page. For detailed command descriptions and usage information, refer to the RUCKUS FastIron Command Reference Guide.
