Quality of Service (QoS)
Quality of Service (QoS) classifies each traffic type entering a device into access category (Voice, Video, Best Effort or Background) and treats it with the priorities assigned to that access category.
It involves mechanisms such as hierarchical queuing, egress scheduling, and data prioritization to manage bandwidth, jitter, and delay effectively. QoS classifies traffic into multiple classes based on application types and requirements, applying different treatments to ensure high-priority traffic, like VoIP and video conferencing, receives the necessary resources for smooth operation. This classification can be based on various criteria, including application types, source and destination addresses, and service groups.
