Backing Up to an FTP Server

Follow these steps to back up the controller network configuration to an FTP server.
  1. Log in to the controller through the command line interface (CLI). For more information to access the CLI, refer to Logging In to the Controller CLI.
  2. At the prompt, enter the enable command followed by the enable super-user password to enter the Privileged EXEC mode, as seen in the following example:
    Node-1> enable
    Password: ********

    Node-1#

  3. Enter the show cluster-state command to display the status of the cluster. Ensure all statuses are In Service.
    Node-1# show cluster-state
Current Management Service Status : In service
Current Node Status : In service
       Cluster Status : In service
       Cluster Operation : None
       System Mode : None

       Cluster Node Information
       ----------------------------------------------------------------
       No. Name Role
       ----- ------------------------ -----------
       1 Node-1-C LEADER

  4. Enter the backup network command to back up the controller network configuration, including the control plane and data plane information.
    Node-1# backup network
Do you want to backup network configurations (or input 'no' to cancel)? [yes/no] yes
    Starting to backup network configurations...
    Successful operation

The controller creates a backup of its network configuration on its database.

  5. Enter the show backup-network command to view a list of backup files that have been created.

Verify that the Created on column displays an entry that has a timestamp that is approximate to the time you started the backup.

    Node-1# show backup-network
No. Created on Patch Version File Size
       ----- ----------------------------- ----------------------------- -----------------------------
       1 2025-05-24 05:58:26 GMT 7.1.0.0.586 1.6KB
       2 2025-05-24 05:58:38 GMT 7.1.0.0.586 1.6KB

  6. Enter the copy backup-network ftp ftp://<username>:<password>@<ip>[/<dir-path>] command.
    Node-1# copy backup-network ftp ftp://user:pass@192.168.100.228
No. Created on Patch Version File Size
       ----- ----------------------------- ----------------------------- -----------------------------
       1 2025-05-24 05:58:26 GMT 7.1.0.0.586 1.6KB
       2 2025-05-24 05:58:38 GMT 7.1.0.0.586 1.6KB

Please choose a backup to send to remote FTP server or 'No' to cancel:

The CLI prompts you to choose the number that corresponds to the backup file that you want to export to the FTP server.

  7. Enter the number of the backup file that you want to export to the FTP server.
Please choose a backup to send to remote FTP server or 'No' to cancel: 2
Starting to copy the chosen backup to remote FTP server...
    Starting to encrypt backup file...
Starting to generate checksum for backup file...
Succeed to copy to remote FTP server
    Successful operation

The controller encrypts the backup file, and then exports it to the FTP server.

  8. Using an FTP client, log on to the FTP server, and then verify that the backup file exists.

The file format of the backup file is network_<YYYYMMDDHHmmss>_<controller-version>.bak.

For example, if you created the backup file on October 24th 2013 at 02:40:22 and the controller version is 7.1.0.0.402, you should see a file named network_20131024024022_7.1.0.0.402.bak on the FTP server.
