Configuring an ICX 7650 Stacking Trunk on a Live System

Follow these steps to convert stacking ports on both ends of a link to a stacking trunk on an ICX 7650 production stack.
  1. (Optional) Enter the show stack command to verify stack configuration.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router# show stack
T=20h23m43.6: alone: standalone, D: dynamic cfg, S: static
ID Type Role Mac Address Pri State Comment

    2 S ICX7650-48F standby 609c.9f52.4643 128 remote Ready

        active standby
         +---+ +---+
     -3/3| 1 |3/1--3/1| 2 |3/3-
     | +---+ +---+ |

Standby u2 - protocols ready, can failover or manually switch over

Current stack management MAC is 609c.9f52.2cd5
    Rear-module: config = oper = stack-40g
Stack ports are operating at 40G.

The example shows a two-unit live stack configured in a ring with no trunks.
  2. (Optional) Enter the show running-config command for additional information on the stack.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router# show running-config | inc stack
    stack unit 1
      stack-port ethernet 1/3/1
      stack-port ethernet 1/3/3
    stack unit 2
      stack-port ethernet 2/3/1
      stack-port ethernet 2/3/3
    stack enable
    stack rconsole-off
    stack mac 609c.9f52.2cd5
    rear-module stack-40g

The example includes only stacking information in the show running-config command output. The output confirms that the ICX 7650 stack is operating in 40-Gbps stacking mode.
  3. Enter stack unit configuration mode.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router# configure terminal
    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config)# stack unit 1
    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config-unit-1)#

  4. Enter the multi-stack-trunk command followed by the set of ports on either end of the live connection to include in the stacking trunk.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config-unit-1)# multi-stack-trunk ethernet 1/3/1 to 1/3/2 and ethernet 2/3/1 to 2/3/2

    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config-unit-1)# end

The example configures a stacking trunk from ports 1/3/1 to 1/3/2 on one end of the connection to ports 2/3/1 and 2/3/2 on the other end.
  5. Enter the write memory command in privileged Exec mode to save the configuration.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router(config-unit-1)# end

SYSLOG: <14> Sep 7 19:13:57 Security: running-config was potentially changed by operator from console

    ICX7650-48ZP Router# write memory

Flash Memory Write (8192 bytes per dot)
    .
    Write startup-config done.
    Copy Done.

The example saves the 40-Gbps trunk configuration.
  6. (Optional) Enter the show stack command to confirm the formation of the trunk.
    ICX7650-48ZP Router# show stack
