Proactive Monitoring of Cable Signal Errors and Logging

Proactive Monitoring of Cable Signal Errors and Logging helps to identify deteriorating cables in a network. Cable signal errors are identified proactively and, once identified, a SYSLOG message is logged so that you can check and monitor the link.

Proactive Monitoring of Cable Signal Errors and Logging is enabled by default, so that every five seconds the cables connected to the 2.5G ports are monitored for cable signal errors. The default interval of five seconds can be altered. At every cable signal error scanning interval, the ports are monitored for errors, and a SYSLOG message is generated when errors are identified.

Note: Proactive Monitoring of Cable Signal Errors and Logging is supported for 2.5G ports only.
Note: Only one SYSLOG message is generated during a thirty minute period.
Note: The configured cable signal error scanning interval is stored in the running and startup configuration, and the value is retained even after reloading. If cable error scanning is disabled, this is stored in the running and startup configuration, and applies even after a reload.

Errors related to the following are detected:

  • LDPC Correctable Error Count
  • LDPC Uncorrectable Error Count
  • Link Partner Fast Retrain
  • Traffic Throughput- LSW and MSW Good Ethernet Frame Count
