Software Upgrade Procedure Overview

You can upgrade FastIron software in several ways: through a manual step-by-step process, through a manifest file, or through a Unified FastIron Image (UFI).

Note: Support is available for upgrades beginning with FastIron 08.0.0.

  1. Preliminary checks. For any upgrade, follow the instructions in Initial steps to determine the current software versions, license requirements, and instructions on where to download the software.
If configured, syslogs do not persist across reloads.
  2. Upgrade the software. For a step-by-step upgrade, refer to The upgrade process.
Note: For the FastIron 08.0.90 release, UFI image copy is the recommended software upgrade method for both standalone devices and traditional stacks.
Note: In the FastIron 08.0.90 release and later releases, all new hardware platforms, starting with ICX 7850 devices, support only UFI images for software upgrade.
Note: For a stack or a Campus Fabric (SPX) system, you can perform a full manual upgrade for each unit, or you can download the software as described in The upgrade process followed by an In-service software upgrade for the stack or SPX system as described in In-service Software Upgrade. Be sure to check ISSU Limitations and Considerations before performing an In-service software upgrade.
