Multicast E-CID Manager

IEEE 802.1BR facilitates the use of multicast E-CIDs (point-to-multipoint) for replication of multicast packets by PE units.

The Multicast E-CID Manager maintains the M-ECIDs and hides the management, programming, and other issues from the applications. The Multicast E-CID Manager allocates and manages M-ECIDs on CB and PE units. The sharing of M-ECIDs is enabled by default. The following are the responsibilities of the Multicast E-CID Manager:

  • Allocate, update, and delete M-ECIDs.
  • M-ECID-based forwarding entry management on PE units.
