ICX Switch Behavior with SmartZone
Note: The full range of ICX-Management capabilities
(including configuration support in SmartZone 5.1.1 or later) is available only
when ICX
devices have been upgraded to FastIron 08.0.90a or later using a Unified Forwarding
Image (UFI). Beginning with FastIron 08.0.90, RUCKUS ICX devices support
unified images that require custom upgrades from prior releases. Any ICX switch
that is
running a FastIron 08.0.80 non-UFI image on the ICX switch must follow a two-step
image
upgrade process to FastIron 08.0.90a through SmartZone controller image updates.
If an
ICX switch from the factory has a FastIron 08.0.80 non-UFI image, it must first
be
upgraded with a FastIron 08.0.90 UFI, followed by a FastIron 08.0.90a UFI, to avoid
any
boot configuration issues. Refer to the RUCKUS FastIron Software Upgrade
Guide for more information.
When an ICX switch is managed by SmartZone, the following considerations apply:
- All local configuration methods continue to be available to the local administrator, which means the switch can be configured through the console, Telnet, SSH, SNMP, or the web.
- It is recommended that the ICX switch be configured with the same NTP server as SmartZone.
- In an ICX stack, if a stack switchover or failover occurs, the original connection to SmartZone is closed, and the new active switch initiates a connection with SmartZone.
