BLE Radio Scan Settings

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Scan settings are necessary for tasks such as device discovery, data exchange, and connectivity management in BLE-enabled applications and systems. The settings include Scan Mode and Discovery Mode.

BLE Scan Mode Overview

BLE Scan mode enables gateways to establish communication with BLE devices by collecting Bluetooth device data in one of two ways. The gateways operate in either Active or Passive mode.

  • Active - In Active mode, after receiving the broadcast packets, the gateway sends a Scan Request message to the advertising device and awaits the Scan Response message from the device.
  • Passive - In Passive mode, the gateway receives broadcast packets and does not send additional queries to the devices. This is the default setting.

Discovery Mode Overview

The Discovery mode determines whether the gateway will scan for all beacons or only beacons that are configured to be discoverable.

  • Discoverable - In this mode, the gateway will only scan for beacons that have non-discoverable field disabled. This means that only beacons explicitly configured to be discoverable will be detected during the scanning process. This is the default setting.
  • Not-Discoverable - In this mode, the gateway will scan for all beacons regardless of their discoverability settings.

Requirements

This feature has no special hardware or software requirements for feature enablement or usage.

Limitations

The Not-Discoverable mode is not supported in R730, R750, T750, R850, T750SE, R650 APs, and the I100 IoT Module.

Best Practices

For optimal performance, utilize Active and Not-Discoverable modes selectively, based on the specific requirements of the BLE devices or application.
