Stack Unit Priority Recommendations

To minimize unnecessary system disruptions, we recommend that you assign identical priority levels to both the active and standby controllers. This configuration helps prevent unnecessary switchover events, such as preemptions, that can occur when a previously active controller recovers from a fault and attempts to rejoin the stack.

However, in specific network topologies where critical paths rely solely on the active controller, assigning it a higher priority than other stack members is recommended. Note that this configuration can lead to failover events, where the initial active controller preempts and reclaims control. While this action can restore critical services, it may result in temporary traffic loss during the transition period.
