Manually Creating a Two-unit ICX 7850 Stack with a Ring Topology
- (Optional) Enter the
show running-configcommand on each stack unit to check its current configuration.The following example shows two stacking units each with stacking ports configured.Unit 1: ICX7850-32Q Router# show running-config Current configuration: ! ver 09.0.00 ! stack unit 1 module 1 icx7850-32q-port-management-module module 2 icx7800-100g-12port-1200g-module module 3 icx7800-100g-8port-800g-module stack-port ethernet 1/3/1 stack-port ethernet 1/3/5 ! ! Unit 2: ICX7850-48FS Router# show running-config Current configuration: ! ver 09.0.00 ! stack unit 1 module 1 icx7850-48fs-port-management-module module 2 icx7800-100g-8port-800g-module stack-port ethernet 1/2/1 stack-port ethernet 1/2/5 ! !
- Manually configure the desired stack-ports or stack-trunks on the two candidate stack
units. To configure a ring, configure two potential connections on each unit.
The following example creates two four-port stacking trunks on each stacking candidate.
Unit 1: ICX7850-32Q Router# configure terminal ICX7850-32Q Router(config)# stack unit 1 ICX7850-32Q Router(config-unit-1)# stack-trunk ethernet 1/3/1 to 1/3/4 stack-trunk ethernet 1/3/1 to 1/3/4 replaces stack-port ethernet 1/3/1 ICX7850-32Q Router(config-unit-1)# stack unit 1 ICX7850-32Q Router(config-unit-1)# stack-trunk ethernet 1/3/5 to 1/3/8 stack-trunk ethernet 1/3/5 to 1/3/8 replaces stack-port ethernet 1/3/5 Unit 2: ICX7850-48FS Router# configure terminal ICX7850-48FS Router(config)# stack unit 1 ICX7850-48FS Router(config-unit-1)# stack-trunk ethernet 1/2/1 to 1/2/4 stack-trunk ethernet 1/2/1 to 1/2/4 replaces stack-port ethernet 1/2/1 ICX7850-48FS Router(config-unit-1)# stack-trunk ethernet 1/2/5 to 1/2/8 stack-trunk ethernet 1/2/5 to 1/2/8 replaces stack-port ethernet 1/2/5 ICX7850-48FS Router(config-unit-1)# end
- Enter the
stack enablecommand on both the units to enable stacking.Unit 1: ICX7850-32Q Router# configure terminal ICX7850-32Q Router(config)# stack enable Enable stacking. This unit actively participates in stacking Unit 2: ICX7850-48FS Router# configure terminal ICX7850-48FS Router(config)# stack enable Enable stacking. This unit actively participates in stacking
Stack active controller election occurs on the connected units, and the second unit reloads to join to the stacking system.The active controller is assigned unit ID 1. It reloads and synchronizes configuration with unit 2. Unit 2 is assigned the role of standby controller. - Enter the
write memorycommand to save the configuration after the stack is formed. - (Optional) Enter the
show stackcommand and theshow running-configcommand to verify stack formation.ICX7850-32Q Router# show stack T=31m6.8: alone: standalone, D: dynamic cfg, S: static ID Type Role Mac Address Pri State Comment 1 S ICX7850-32Q active d4c1.9e18.3731 0 local Ready 2 S ICX7850-48FS standby d4c1.9e18.8dd9 0 remote Ready active standby +---+ +---+ =3/5| 1 |3/1==2/1| 2 |2/5= | +---+ +---+ | | | |------------------------| Standby u2 - protocols ready, can failover or manually switch over Role history: N: standalone, A: active, S: standby, M: member U1: N->A Current stack management MAC is d4c1.9e18.3731 ICX7850-32Q Router# show running-config Current configuration: ! ver 09.0.00 ! stack unit 1 module 1 icx7850-32q-port-management-module module 2 icx7800-100g-12port-1200g-module module 3 icx7800-100g-8port-800g-module stack-trunk ethernet 1/3/1 to 1/3/4 stack-trunk ethernet 1/3/5 to 1/3/8 stack unit 2 module 1 icx7850-48fs-port-management-module module 2 icx7800-100g-8port-800g-module stack-trunk ethernet 2/2/1 to 2/2/4 stack-trunk ethernet 2/2/5 to 2/2/8 stack enable stack mac d4c1.9e18.3731 ! !
