Setting the Clock Parameters for the Device
The date and time values set on a device
are used for logging, error detection, and troubleshooting. ICX devices have the
capability
to retain date and time programmed in the Real Time Clock (RTC) register even when
power is
removed from the device. However, the ICX 7650 devices do not have this capability
because
they were designed without an RTC battery, therefore they do not retain clock date
and time
in case of power outage. To avoid this, configure the NTP server to manage the clock
because
time synchronization from NTP server overrides the switch clock.
The following procedure sets the local clock date and time. An active NTP server, if configured, automatically updates and overrides the local clock time. Time values are limited to between January 1, 1970 and December 31, 2035.
Note: You should set the
clock only if there are no NTP servers configured. Time synchronization from NTP
servers overrides the local clock.
- In Privileged EXEC mode, set the clock date and time.
The time and date are entered in the format hours:minutes:seconds month-day-year. In this example, the clock is set to 9:57am on July 28, 2016.
- Enter Privileged EXEC mode.
- Set the time zone for the device.
The time zone is set by geographical area and then region. In this example, the time zone is set to the USA mountain standard time zone.
- Optionally set the summer-time start and end dates for the selected time zone.
device(config)# clock summer-time zone us mountain start 03-13-16 02:00:00 end 11-06-16 02:00:00 offset 60
In this example, summer time starts at 2:00am on March 13, 2016 and ends at 2:00am on November 6, 2016 - To display clock and time zone settings, use the
show clockcommand.
Setting a Recurring Summer Time Configuration
Optionally, you can use the recurring
option to customize the start and end parameters for the time zone that the ICX
switch
supports, so the changes will recur each year.
- Enter Privileged EXEC mode.
- Set the recurring summer-time start and end dates for the selected time
zone.
device(config)# clock summer-time zone us pacific recurring start sunday week 2 month 3 end sunday week 1 month 11
In this example, the recurring summer time starts on the second Sunday of March and ends the first Sunday of November. - To display clock and time
zone settings, use the
show clock detailcommand.device# show clock detail 10:58:21.222 Pacific Thu Feb 15 2024 Time source is Set Clock Summer time starts 02:00:00 Pacific Sun Mar 10 2024 offset 60 mins Summer time ends 02:00:00 Pacific Sun Nov 03 2024 offset 60 mins
The default time for the change is set to 2:00 am and the offset default is 60 minutes.
When the clock moves to the next year, the recurring summer time will automatically be updated and look like this:
device# show clock detail 23:59:58.088 Pacific Wed Dec 31 2024 Time source is Set Clock Summer time starts 02:00:00 Pacific Sun Mar 9 2025 offset 60 mins Summer time ends 02:00:00 Pacific Sun Nov 2 2025 offset 60 mins
