Traffic Management
In this section:
- BonjourBonjour is the Apple implementation of a zero-configuration networking protocol for Apple devices over IP. Bonjour allows OS X and iOS devices to locate other devices such as printers, file servers, and other clients on the same broadcast domain and use the services offered without any network configuration required.
- Directed MulticastDirected Multicast optimizes the delivery of multicast traffic by converting it into unicast traffic under certain conditions.
- Multicast FilterThe Multicast Filter feature is designed to drop multicast and broadcast traffic from associated wireless clients, thereby preventing multicast and broadcast storms that can consume wireless bandwidth, AP resources, and generate unnecessary network traffic.
- Multicast Rate LimitingIn deployments where multicast floods occur, the health of the AP should not be impacted. Multicast floods can happen in any direction, and throughput issues have been reported from the field where clients transmitting unicast traffic are affected by other users streaming multicast services.
- Quality of Service (QoS)Quality of Service (QoS) is a feature designed to prioritize network traffic, ensuring optimal performance for essential applications and services.
- Traffic ClassTraffic class is a categorization of network traffic used to prioritize and manage data transmission across wireless and wired networks.
- Wi-Fi CallingCertain mobile service providers offer Wi-Fi Calling, allowing built-in software applications on smartphones to initiate an authentication process between the mobile device and the mobile carrier through the Wi-Fi network.
