Configuring a Monitor Port for ERSPAN

The following task configures a monitor port for Encapsulated Remote Switched Port Analyzer (ERSPAN), which captures traffic and sends it to a remote destination over a Layer 3 network.

Before proceeding, configure an ERSPAN profile. Refer to Configuring an ERSPAN Profile for more information.

  1. Enter global configuration mode. 
    device# configure terminal
  2. Configure an Ethernet interface to be the mirror port. 
    device(config)# interface ethernet 1/2/3
  3. Configure the mirror port for ERSPAN to capture both ingress and egress traffic. 
    device(config-if-e1000-1/2/3)# monitor profile 1 both
Port 1/2/3 is configured to use ERSPAN monitor profile 1 and monitor both types of traffic (ingress and egress).

The following example configures a monitor port for ERSPAN.

device# configure terminal 
device(config)# interface ethernet 1/2/3
device(config-if-e1000-1/2/3)# monitor profile 1 both
