Checking the SmartZone Cluster Status

Monitoring the health and operational integrity of a SmartZone (SZ) cluster is a critical task for network administrators, especially in environments where high availability and performance are paramount. The show cluster-state command in the SZ CLI provides a comprehensive snapshot of the cluster’s current status, including management service availability, node readiness, ongoing operations, and system mode, as shown in the following example:

1-vSZ# show cluster-state
Current Management Service Status : In service
Current Node Status : In service
   Cluster Status : In service
   Cluster Operation : None
   System Mode : None

Crash Mode

The cluster enters Crash mode when the system meets an unexpected, irrecoverable error during a fresh install or a reboot process flow. Recovery requires that you reset the system to factory settings.

The system enters Crash mode in any one of the following conditions:

  1. System reboot with an environment inconsistency:
    1. Model
    2. Port group (applicable to only hardware model SZ144)
    3. Firmware Version
  2. Fresh install fail.
  3. Join cluster fail.

Crash Mode

To reset the system to factory settings in case of Crash mode, use the set-factory command.

Setting the Controller to Factory Defaults

Suspend Mode

The cluster enters Suspend mode if there is an environment error during the reboot process flow. The Configurer sets the system mode to Suspend and stops all applications. As this is a temporary failure, recovery requires that you reboot the system.

The system enters Suspend mode in any one of the following conditions:

  1. Platform applications cannot be launched successfully.
  2. Failed on membership authentication in cluster.

Suspend Mode

To recover the system in case of Suspend mode, enter the reload command in the controller CLI. The cluster automatically detects and clears the suspend flag before launching applications.
