Configuring an IPv6 address on the Router Interface

Perform the following steps to enable the forwarding of IPv6 traffic and configure an IPv6 address on the router interface.

Complete the steps outlined in the Configuring the Stateless DHCPv6 Server on Layer 2 Software Images section before completing this task.

Note: The configuration of the nd other-config-flag, using the ipv6 nd other-config-flag command, is required for the stateless DHCPv6 server to receive DNS and domain name configuration. When the ipv6 nd other-config-flag command is used, the O flag is set to 1.
Note: The router-interface can be an ICX router or a router from another vendor, for example, Cisco Systems.
  1. On the ICX router, enter global configuration mode by issuing the configure terminal command.
    router# configure terminal
  2. Enter the ipv6 unicast-routing command to enable the forwarding of IPv6 traffic.
    router(config)# ipv6 unicast-routing
  3. Enter the interface command and specify the port connected to the client.
    router(config)# interface ve 100
  4. Enter the ipv6 address command, specifying an IPv6 address, to configure an IPv6 address on the router interface of the ICX router.
    router(config-vif-100)# ipv6 address 8fef:400:efdd:301::3/64
  5. Enter the ipv6 nd nd other-config-flag command to enable the hosts to use autoconfiguration to get non-IPv6-address information.
    router(config-vif-100)# ipv6 nd nd other-config-flag

The following example enables the forwarding of IPv6 traffic and configures an IPv6 address. The ipv6 nd other-config-flag command is used to set the 0 flag to 1.

router# configure terminal
router(config)# ipv6 unicast-routing
router(config)# interface ve 100
router(config-vif-100)# ipv6 address 8fef:400:efdd:301::3/64
router(config-vif-100)# ipv6 nd nd other-config-flag
