Converting Data Uplink Ports to Stacking Ports

Be sure port connections are correct before changing modes or speeds. Be sure local and remote ports operate in the same mode and at the same speed.
Note: ICX 7650 devices cannot operate in a stack when the rear module is configured for data uplink. Stacking election mechanisms and all stacking operations, including IPC communications, are blocked in uplink mode.

Follow these steps to convert the rear module (Module 3) of an ICX 7650 device from uplink to stacking mode.

  1. Enter global configuration mode.
    ICX7650-48P Router# configure terminal

  2. Enter the no rear-module command to restore the rear-module default (100-Gbps stacking mode).
    ICX7650-48P Router(config)# no rear-module

  3. Enter the write memory command to save the change.
    ICX7650-48P Router(config)# write memory

  4. Reload the unit to put the mode change into effect.
    ICX7650-48P Router(config)# exit
    ICX7650-48P Router# reload

The following example removes the data uplink configuration from an ICX 7650 device, restores the default (100-Gbps stacking), saves the configuration, and reloads the unit so that it operates in 100-Gbps stacking mode.

Note: For information on changing the stacking speed, refer to Changing ICX 7650 stacking speed.

ICX7650-48P Router(config)# no rear-module
ICX7650-48F Router(config)# write memory
Flash Memory Write (8192 bytes per dot)
.
Write startup-config done.
Copy Done.
ICX7650-48F Router(config)# exit
ICX7650-48F Router# reload

ICX7650-48F Router# show rear-module
The rear module operates in stacking mode with 100G speed.
