fec

Enables Forward Error Correction (FEC) on an Ethernet port to improve link reliability.
Syntax
fec { off | on }
no fec { off | on }
Command Default

FEC is disabled by default.

Parameters
off
Disables FEC on the specified interface.
on
Enables FEC on the specified interface.
Modes

Interface configuration mode

Usage Guidelines

This command is available only on interfaces where 25G or 100G optics are present. It is not applicable to 1G, 10G, 40G, or other speeds. Enabling FEC improves bit error rate (BER) performance and is typically used with long-reach optics.

The command complies with Clause 91 of the IEEE 802.3 specification (CL91). Attempting to enable FEC on an unsupported port will result in a CLI error message.

The no form of the command disables FEC on the port.

Examples

The following example enables FEC on an Ethernet interface.
