Licensing Guidelines for Existing Customers
In this section, we outline the criteria and conditions for existing customers who wish to migrate their pre-2.0 IoT licenses to the version (2.0). It's important to carefully review and meet these conditions to ensure a smooth and successful upgrade. If you are a current user of RUCKUS IoT Controller, and you are using a perpetual license, consider the following guidelines:
- RUCKUS offers three years of subscription-based licenses for customers who have purchased perpetual licenses and want to install RUCKUS IoT Controller 2.0.0.0.
- After three years, customers must purchase renewal licenses based upon their requirements.
- If your current support subsciption is expiring by March 2024, with the new 2.0 instance, the subscription will be active till March 2025.
- If your current support subscription is expiring in March 2027, the subscription will be active till March 2027.
- If you do not have an active support subscription, you are not eligible to migrate. You must purchase a support subscription, and it will be activated for the same period upon migrating to version 2.0
- The process to migrate licenses involves RMA of existing licenses as described in the following article: https://support.ruckuswireless.com/articles/000004883
- The following licenses are
eligible for migration or transfer:
- 1x IOT-SOPM-PREM-MSP3 and x IOT-SOPM-0250-MSP3 or IOT-SOPM-050-MSP3 1
- A core license (L09-INT-WW00) supporting the new RUCKUS IoT Controller serial number
- The estimated duration of
migration for the subscription-based licenses is 48 hours.
Note: The eligible license migration is subjected to current or active IoT connected devices.
- The IOT SOPM-050-MSP3 licenses will be applicable for customers with current AP capacity licenses less than or equal to 100. In such cases where the customer has an AP capacity license of 100 or fewer, the number of Device capacity licenses provided will be 2x multiple of IOT SOPM-050-MSP3. ↩
Criteria for Migrating Pre-2.0 IoT Licenses to Version 2.0
To be eligible for the migration of pre-2.0 IoT licenses to the version (2.0), customers must meet the following criteria.
- Active Support Contract: Customers must have an active support contract for their pre-2.0 IoT Controller. This contract should be current and valid at the time of the migration request.
- License Snapshot: Customers are required to take a snapshot of the LICENSE page on their pre-2.0 IoT Controller. This snapshot should clearly display all the licenses (RTU) that are installed on the controller.
- Support for APs in Salesforce: Customers should possess valid support licenses for the number of access points (APs) indicated on the controller's LICENSE page. There should be one support license for each access point, and all of these support licenses must be currently active.
If any of the above criteria are not met, the customer may not be eligible for a free upgrade to the latest version (2.0).

Frequently Asked Questions (Q&A)
To address common questions and scenarios that customers may encounter, we've included a Q&A section:
- Q1: I have an existing support contract that expires on a specific date. How much of the license or subscription am I eligible for?
- A1: Your eligibility for licenses and subscriptions depends on the date of your upgrade request. If your support contract is active at the time of the upgrade request, you will be eligible for the respective licenses and subscriptions based on the terms outlined in Section 4.
- Q2: I have a 1.8 controller with expired support licenses. Can I still upgrade?
- A2: To be eligible for the upgrade, you must have active support licenses for all APs on your controller. If your support licenses have expired, you will need to purchase support licenses for all APs before initiating the upgrade.
