DHCPv6 Controller Address Configuration using Option 52
The DHCPv6 server running on an ICX switch
can send the IPv6 address of the SmartZone (SZ) controller to clients via DHCPv6 advertise
and reply packets.
Feature Overview
Clients receive the IPv6 address and option 52 parameters from the DHCPv6 server, and then connect to the SZ controller using the received SZ IP address specified in option 52. Option 52 enhances SZ controller management and connectivity in the network.
Requirements
Considerations
- Option 52 can be configured in
DHCPv6 configuration mode or DHCPv6 subnet configuration mode using the
controller-addresscommand.- If the controller address is configured at the global level, in DHCPv6 configuration mode, it applies to all pools configured on the switch.
- If the controller address is configured at the subnet level in DHCPv6 subnet configuration mode, it applies only to that specific subnet. The server only advertises the controller address to clients within that subnet.
- The configured controller’s addresses are displayed in the output of the following commands:
- In a stacking system, the configured controller’s address is synchronized to the standby unit.
- The configured IPv6 address for a controller is restored after every reload. The IPv6 address is synced to the standby unit in a stacking system.
- A maximum of four controller addresses can be configured at either the global level or the subnet level.
- The IPv6 address for the controller cannot be configured via RESTCONF or the SNMP interface.
- The ICX switch as a DHCPv6 client is not supported..
Prerequisites
Access to the IPv6 address or IPv6 addresses of the CTRL interface on the SmartZone controller is required.
