Configuring DHCP Snooping Relay Information Sub-options
The DHCP relay agent sub-options are part of DHCP Option 82, which is also known as the "Relay Agent Information Option". When a DHCP relay agent forwards a request, it can insert these sub-options to provide additional context about the client's location or identity. This information helps the DHCP server make more informed decisions about IP address allocation and can assist in network management and troubleshooting.
- Subscriber ID (SID):
- Typically, this can be an ASCII string that uniquely identifies the subscriber. It could be a username, account number, or any other identifier that makes sense in your network context.
- Circuit ID (CID):
- This usually includes information about the physical circuit or port. It can be an ASCII string that identifies the interface on which the DHCP request was received. This might include details like the VLAN ID, port number, or other relevant interface information.
Complete the following steps to configure the Option 82 sub-options.
- Enter global configuration mode.
- Enable DHCP snooping and DHCP option 82 on a VLAN.
- Enter interface configuration mode for a specific port.
- Enable the interface to insert
the SID, CID, or RID information in the DHCP packets. In the example, the SID is Brcd01.
The following example enables interface 1/1/4 to insert the CID information in the DHCP packets.
device(config-if-e1000-1/1/4)# dhcp snooping relay information circuit-id circuit01
