Upgrading the RUCKUS Network Director Version

The RUCKUS Network Director software version upgrade, including database migration, can be completed from the RUCKUS Network Director Admin portal using the incremental update build package. You can upload the new build file to upgrade RUCKUS Network Director to the new version. When the file is uploaded successfully, the RUCKUS Network Director server is restarted and upgraded to the new version.

Note: RUCKUS Network Director must be upgraded to version 2.5.20 to move forward to 3.0 and later versions.

When upgrading RUCKUS Network Director, you must first upgrade the primary node and then upgrade the secondary node. This avoids the timeout issues for large databases.

Complete the following steps to upgrade RUCKUS Network Director.

Note: During an upgrade, make sure that both the primary node and the secondary node are upgraded.
Attention: Beginning with the RUCKUS Network Director 4.0.0.29 release, database encryption is introduced, and the RND software can only be upgraded using encrypted .pkg (package) file. Once RND is upgraded to version 4.0.0.29, downgrades to earlier versions are not supported. Additionally, reversion between RND versions 4.0.x.x and 4.5.x.x is also not supported. However, within the 4.0.0.x range, upgrades from version 4.0.0.29 to a later release can be reverted to the immediately preceding version.
  1. Complete the following steps to upgrade the primary node.
    1. On the menu, go to Admin > Upgrade.
      The Upgrade ND window is displayed.
    2. In the System Upgrade pane, click Choose File.
      The File Upload window is displayed. Navigate to the file location and select the latest file update build package. For releases prior to RUCKUS Network Director 4.0.0.29, updatePackage.zip files are supported for upgrades.

      Beginning with RUCKUS Network Director 4.0.0.29 release, the RND software can be upgraded only using encrypted .pkg (package) file. The update build package is available on the RUCKUS Support Portal.

    3. In the System Upgrade pane, click Update.
      An information dialog box is displayed indicating that the update is successful.
    4. When the Upgrade dialog box is displayed, check the latest upgrade details and click Yes. It is recommended to back up the RND configuration before upgrading to the new version.
    5. RUCKUS Network Director will automatically log out after the update is successful.
    6. Log in to the RUCKUS Network Director.
  2. Complete the following steps to upgrade the secondary node.
    1. On the menu, go to Admin > RND Cluster.
      The RND Cluster window is displayed.
    2. Select the secondary node from the Node Info tab.
    3. Repeat Step 1a through Step 1f to upgrade the secondary node to the latest version.
  3. On the Dashboard, check that the version number has been updated to the latest version.
  4. Complete the following steps to revert to the previous release.
    1. On the menu, go to Admin > Upgrade.
      The Upgrade ND window is displayed.
    2. In the Revert Upgrade panel, click Revert to < version number> version to revert to the previous release.
      Note: The Revert Upgrade panel is displayed only after upgrading the to a new version.
      Note: If RUCKUS Network Director is upgraded to version 4.0.0.29, you cannot revert to a previous version. Reversion between RUCKUS Network Director versions 4.0.x.x and 4.5.x.x is also not supported. However, upgrades between version 4.0.0.29 and any later versions within 4.0.0.x range can be reverted to the previous versions.
