Upgrading a Stack with ISSU
The following examples for copying images represent typical use. Other options such as manifest-based image copy can also be used. Refer to Initial steps and The upgrade process for more information before performing the upgrade.
Complete the following steps to upgrade a stack using ISSU.
- Copy the images.
- Back up the running image to the secondary partition.
- Copy the new image from its server location to the primary partition.
The IP address in the example is for the TFTP server. The address can be an IPv4 or IPv6 address. The .bin file is the name of the image file. - Check the sequence of the upgrade.
device# show issu sequence Stack units will be upgraded in the following order ID Type Role 1 ICX7450-32ZP standby 3 ICX7450-32ZP member 4 ICX7450-32ZP active
The example shows the sequence for a three-unit stack. - Initiate the upgrade.
Use the
issu primarycommand, preferably with an error recovery option, if you downloaded the image to the primary partition of the flash.Or use the
issu secondarycommand, preferably with an error recovery option, if you downloaded the image to the secondary partition.Note: The issu command optionon-error reload-primaryshown in the following example specifies an automatic reload from the primary partition if there is an upgrade error. You can also specify the optionon-error reload-secondaryto reload from the secondary partition to bring the stack back up with the original image.-

- Enter y when prompted to start the upgrade, or n to stop the process.
- Wait for the upgrade to complete, and check the status. (You may check the status
at any time.)
